Windy
A crucial aspect for kitesurfers and windsurfers is wind and waves forecasts. Windy is our recommended application to get wind forecasts, tide times and swell height. It comes in iPhone and Android versions and have everything you need to have.
Our favourite feature is the possibility to set a sailing profile (kite or windsurf) and get recommendations on sail or kite size.
C-MAP
Kitesurfers and windsurfers are not real sailors, but in some areas, having knowledge of the nautical traffic, buoys, obstacles and water depths can be a life saver.
C-MAP is our favourite app for marine charts, its available for Android and iPhone and it’s totally free. It features water depths, buoys and a distant measuring tool that can be really handy if you are planning a race or regatta with your friends. The app has also a built-in weather forecast tool but we prefer Windy for that.
THE KITE AND WINDSURFING NAVIGATOR
This is the app version of the infamous “Kite and Windsurfing Guide” by Stoked publications, the masterpiece written by Udo Holker documenting carefully more than 2000+ spots over the world.
NavigatorPlus works for iPhone and online and it’s your most valuable companion to find and learn about kite or windsurf spots. It contains everything you need to know about a spot such as best seasons and conditions, local rentals and prices, favourite restaurants, hotels, shops, schools and shapers.
Unfortunately it is not free but sells packages of world regions (such as Europe) for EUR 5.99.
